Shipra Gupta’s Spring Summer 2012 collection shows a mix of cultures across boundaries. The show had a very young feel to it, more like a wanderer roaming in and out without confining herself. The ensembles reflect a lot of observing and absorbing. It seems that the designer is alert and aware of the things happening. She meticulously picks the chunks from the best places and uses it in the best manner. The shapes start with basics, which then transcend into a countryside mood. The overlay is done smartly with embroidered aprons in contrast colours. White organzas are used as layering in tiered format. The self brocades are teamed with stripes and checks. There is a lot of volume added to the shapes. The voluminous hems are tied on the waistlines- a very countryside element. The palette is carefully chosen between blacks, whites, greys and ornamented with earthy browns. A lot of metal embroidery in the form of bangles and rings is thrown over tastefully over the surfaces.
