Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 12th edition of Man Ki Baat Programme urges people to buy Khadi. “So I urge you all to give space to khadi in your homes this Diwali,” the Prime Minister said in his address on All India Radio.
In keeping with the leader of the nation, Narendra Modi’s clarion call, to make Khadi fashionable again, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), presented the second edition of its unique initiative titled ‘Huts to High Street’, at IIM Ahmedabad. This special showcasing was in association with the Gujarat State Khadi & Village Industries Board (GSKVIB) on 1st November, 2015.
India’s leading style gurus from the maverick Rohit Bal, to the ingenious Rajesh Pratap Singh, Pero by Aneeth Arora and 11.11/Eleven Eleven showcased collections soaked in crafts and Indian heritage. The designers presented innovative modern twists to hand spun and woven ensembles.
The inimitable Salman Khan and Bollywood sweetheart Sonam Kapoor walked the ramp in an ensemble designed by Rajesh Pratap Singh and Rohit Bal, in a bid to promote indigenous khadi.
“We would like to thank UPL and Angelic Foundation, our generous partners and the lead starcast of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo for creating a space for fashion with a cause and making Khadi an essential in every persons wardrobe,” further added Mr. Sethi.
Khadi’s celebration was witnessed by prominent personalities from industrialists, textile aficionados, and senior level bureaucrats, members of the film industry and faculties & students from Gujarat design & business institutes.
