Designer Ritu Kumar launch a new flagship store in Khan Market

Padma Shri awarded designer Ritu Kumar has collaborated with Bangalore based graphic artist Smruthi Eswar to exhibit her work of art SEASONED, and celebrated the launch of RITU Kumar flagship store launch in Khan Market, New Delhi on 25th April 2014.

The exhibition, SEASONED, showcased a graphic depiction of the four seasons personified as Goddess in nature. An extension of Smruthi’s earlier popular artwork series ‘SISTER MISFORTUNE,’ inspired from mythology and dated art forms, it used fluid and floral art noveau designs. Creation of this series exclusively for the design house further, inspired a capsule collection by LABEL in line with Spring Summer 2014 trends.
“These artists epitomize what’s happening culturally in India today. Label has origins in the same ethos and hence the brand is looking to promote these artistic voices. Blending the artist’s vision with our collections is a unique endeavor on our part to reach out to the younger generation of urban women and we hope to see a more widespread appreciation for this art-fashion collaboration, said Amrish Kumar, Creative Director, said Designer Ritu Kumar.

“I studied art in school and always knew I wanted to do something in design and art. And after years of doing graphic design I feel a need for this kind of artistic output where I have a space to talk about what I wish to. While design has been problem solving or dealing with other issues I wanted to talk about what interests me. I was just waiting for something to say, something I wanted to discuss, and something I wanted to address. In that sense this project is extremely true to me as it brings together all the things I have explored. It makes sense that I would do a series on the goddesses, it allows me address everything I want to address: the universe, gender, humanity”, Smruthi said.
The ‘Seasoned’ artwork will continue to showcase at the store for a month.

The evening hosted by LABEL was attended by over 100 guests including designer Hemant Sagar, Didier Lecoanet, Sonya Jehan, Shivani Wazir Pasricha, Vikrum Baidyanath, Sonali Jain, Sanjay Sharma, Rajiv Sethi, Aparna Bahl and the likes.
Ritu Kumar’s newly launched store at Khan Market is spread over two floors, the store houses both couture and pret collections.

Ritu Kumar has over 30 stores across India including the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Jaipur and Dubai to name a few.
