Delhi witnessed a top of the line Fashion event from the North East Region on the evening of 2nd Oct.’12 at the open area of Dilli Haat, INA. The evening was inaugurated by Smt Kiran Walia, Minister of Education, Delhi Government in the presence of Sri S.S. Gupta, the Development Commissioner –Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and Smt Rahila Brahma, Director (WPT) Govt. of Assam. Smt Walia welcomed the team of north east to Delhi and said that the culture, music, fashion of the region was very attractive and the Govt. of Delhi always welcomes the people of NER to strive for a better future in the Capital.
Mr Gupta requested the large gathered audience to encourage the designers coming from the eight states who will present their Collections till the 9th of Oct. at Dilli Haat.The Inaugural day saw a well known face from Assam Vikram Rai Medhi presenting a colourful and vibrant indo-western line of rich Assam silk Mekhala Chadars, Sarees with western line in Eri and tribaltextiles. Nayanika Chaterjee, Saba, Lina with international modelswere seen walking the long ramp on a majestic sets alongwith fewmodels from the NER who have specially come to the capital for this Fashion Festival being presented by Ministry of Textiles. Vikram RaiMedhi told this scribe that events of this magnitude and profile not only promotes fashion but plays a much larger role in brining the culture of NER to the mainstream and building a positive image brandof the region. This 8 day festival-CELEBRATING THE NORTH EAST, will feature designers from Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur,Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
