Reynu Taandon with Actress Richa Chadda

Reynu Taandon – a leading fashion designer- is going to participate in the India Couture Week (ICW) 2016 with her latest collection, “Kamangari”. An interview with Fashiongaze, Reynu sheds light on her collection – Kamangari and its affiliation with Rajasthani culture and heritage. Edited excerpts:

Q: You will showcase your latest couture collection on July 22nd at Taj Mahal Hotel Darwar Hall, New Delhi. On which textures and technique, you have worked for your collection?

A: We used a vivid pallet of colours ranging from red to orange to golden green. I played around with Chanderi, hand foil printing, block printing, thread work and gota.

Q: Do you think couture is largely bridal in India?
A: I do not feel couture is just bridal. I feel it expands to the bride and her family. Couture is very wedding centric where not just the bride but also the groom’s family, mothers and sisters like to indulge in looking their best on every occasion, that involves a celebration for their loved ones.

Q: What is the theme of your Couture collection?

A: The theme of the collection is Rajasthani heritage which by nature is very artistic. Thus I gave my collection the name “Kamangari”.

Q: What are your potential markets?

A: If you talk geographically, then my main markets are, first of course, our domestic market. Internationally, it’s Paris, Middle East, and America.

Q:What advice would you give to the upcoming designers?
A: Well, my advice to the upcoming designers would be don't be in a haste focus on quality over quantity since that's what distinguishes you from the masses. And couture talks quality where every pattern every design every colour is thought over carefully and then, we make each piece for the show.
