The Hippie Chic

Aneeth Arora’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection was a spectacle of revolting prints and checks. The collection is worth noticing for more than one reason. The designer sent out models in baby doll dresses. Madras checks of late 50s made a comeback. Turbans returned to the runway after a relatively long time. The show also put spotlight on traditional Indian ikat fabric.

The designer’s signature style of ‘relaxed chic’ got a print and colour makeover. The costumes were injected with ditzy floral prints with red, blue and yellow as the dominant colors. Red prints on blue jacket reconfirmed the loud colour story. Models borne resemblance to hippie chic, beautifully styled in gypsy headscarves with abundance of prints and checks, sunglasses, straw hat and cute vegetable basket – a secure similitude to Indianised beachwear. Checks of all forms including Madras checks, gin gham and Scottish tartans in shades of red, white and grey were teamed with hand-made wire baskets.

The fashion designer sent out a wide range of silhouettes including the baby doll dresses with plenty of gathers, double breasted coats with shawl collar and pleated roomy trousers down the ramp. Yellow shirt with peasant sleeve was teamed with dark green shift dress with red prints and monochromatic red turban making the entire look eye-popping – The Hippie Chic!
